OK, so you just built your company/organization Facebook page... now what? You need to get people to “like” it. Sure, it is simple to send out a request to all of your friends, but are they really the people you want to be targeting?
You have to make people want to “like” your Facebook page. Facebook is a little tougher than other social media platforms to get users to opt in. Users need a compelling reason.
Here are a few suggestions on grabbing peoples attention:
1. Create content that is exclusive for Facebook
- A lot of companies link their Facebook and Twitter accounts together, meaning everything posted on their Facebook page automatically tweets to all of their followers. This is not effective because you have two different audiences. You need to be aware of that and cater to each specific audience. So offer special Facebook discounts. Your Facebook discounts are more than likely going to differ from the Twitter discounts you offer because of the different audiences.
- Give away merchandise to fans at random. This keeps the excitement and momentum going. If you are giving away merchandise by the week what does anyone have to lose by “liking” the page?
- Include pictures and videos to add a personal spin to your Facebook page. Are the employees involved in something cool? Make sure you capture it and share the pictures or videos with everyone. This allows people to put a face to the brand.
It is your job to find out what your customers want from you. Once you figure that out you can deliver that on your page.
2. Be unique
Your Facebook page should offer a unique brand experience. You want to stand out in the eyes of your customers and beyond.
- Use your Facebook page as a “behind the scenes” to your company/ organization
- Post stuff on your Facebook page that you aren’t sharing anywhere else
- Give users a preview to soon-to-be released products
- Ask for opinions on current products and services
- Ask for ideas for future products and services
- Have contests- maybe you can have your customers name the next product or help with the strategy and campaign of it
By creating unique experiences for your customers, you are making your brand more personable and letting them feel apart of it. Why wouldn’t they come back?
3. Create a community based around momentum
The employees at the company/organization must be involved with the Facebook campaign (and the entire social media campaign as a whole). They need to continually spread the message and hype about the company/organization. They need to be reaching out to everyone who “likes” the page and encourage interaction. By getting people talking, interest is naturally created and other people will be curious to see what the commotion is all about.
Facebook pages are an extremely valuable tool for building a community around your company/organization. This is where you can learn about your audience. However, what good are they if you customers don’t join in? You must give them a compelling reason. Take advantage of this platform, it will be well worth your while!
